The Numbers Raise Important Questions

With 104 of 120 Florida House members reportedly endorsed by the Florida Realtors® PAC, the organization has endorsed candidates representing a substantial majority of the House.

A simple majority of 61 votes is generally required to pass legislation in the Florida House. That makes the relationship between lawmakers and the real estate industry an important subject for public scrutiny.

Among the lawmakers identified here, 15 have direct affiliations or associations with Florida real estate organizations. Given their connections to the industry, the public deserves to know where they stand on the current system of brokerage relationships under Florida Statute § 475.278.

They have an opportunity to explain whether they support maintaining transaction brokerage as the default relationship or changing the law to make single-agent representation the default.

The question is straightforward: When lawmakers have direct connections to the real estate industry, will they address the concerns raised about a system that critics argue favors brokerage interests over consumer interests—or will they remain silent?

Florida consumers deserve clear answers, transparency, and accountability from the people elected to represent them.
